God Is In Your Corner

We all learn from the time we are children who the people are that support us. Usually it’s our caregivers who we look to meet our basic needs and hopefully grow into mutual loving relationships. As we get a little older we look to friends to have our backs, support our goals and dreams and vice versa. Eventually, the search for that one person to become one with, the one who will be there through all the ups and downs of life, the good and the bad times. If you are fortunate enough you will have a wide array of healthy and loving relationships.

But let’s face it, we’re all just broken humans and many times we just fail each other. Relationships become unhealthy and divides happen. Depending on so many different family dynamics we learn relational behaviors, some good, some not so good in how we deal with other people. We see through the eyes of our own experiences, how our parents related to each other in dealing with conflict, with grief, with challenging circumstances and also how we were loved. Insecurities can develop and we take those insecurities into our relationships.

As I have walked through this life I have felt alone in facing difficult circumstances on many occasions. I’ve experienced the sting of being let down by the closest people in my life. I’ve also isolated myself from reaching out for support because of fear of being let down again. It can feel like life is one battle after another for some people. I was one of those people…experiencing a lot of trauma in childhood and many years into adulthood.

I felt like a boxer with no one in my corner to encourage and guide me in the fights of life. Until the day I cried out to God and found that He had always been in my corner but I wasn’t tuned in to hear His voice! It was totally life changing when I realized how much He loved me and truly cared about me. I never really felt important to anyone but as I turned my heart to my Creator, the God who sees me, I experienced love in its purest form. As I tuned my heart, mind and soul to the One who loves me most, the worst of battles became training ground to hear His voice, guidance and directions to have peace and stability through them. A boxer can win or lose depending on listening to their coach’s voice through the fight.

Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.” Imagine the power behind that statement, The God of the universe fights for you, just be still and know that He is God! Psalm 46:10.

“My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble, the One who watches over you Israel (also all Believers in Jesus Christ) neither slumbers or sleeps. The Lord Himself watches over you, the Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and as you go. Both now and forever.” Psalm 121:2-8

“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.” Psalm 27:10

When I turned to God and tuned my heart in to His voice and surrendered to His ways it really didn’t matter if anyone was in my corner but Him! As I grew in relationships with people He connected me with at church I also began to realize He uses His people to help others, myself included. And I also found He would use me too as I listened to His voice. My wounded heart began to heal as I was comforted by Jesus and His people.

”He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort that God has given us.” II Corinthians 1:4

The Lord is in your corner my friend, tune your heart to His voice, let His word lead and guide you. Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him. Pray He lead you to a church where you can grow in faith if you are not already connected to one. It is God’s will that we be part of a body of believers to learn His truths and be His love to each other. Praying for you my friend to be all He created you to be!

In His Love, Sharon Kay
