When The Heart Breaks

Heart wounds are a part of being human. These wounds can range from minimal to full on maximum pain that crushes the soul. Yes, we all have different pain tolerances but heartbreak says we are alive and have the capability to feel and be wounded emotionally. But what do we do with it…crying releases some pressure…sometimes talking about it to a trusted friend can help…some of us become numb to it and deal with it in unhealthy manners/addictions. But how do we process the pain in a healthy way?

I believe there is normal heart break from unavoidable events such as the death of someone close and of course beloved pets, also a serious illness or a troubled child. There’s also disappointments that happen from losing a job, financial problems, divorce, not passing exams, fill in the blanks. There’s also chronic heart break from living in a toxic home environment with emotionally unhealthy people. That’s a real hard one because you feel trapped, like there’s no way to escape it. Children who grow up in these toxic homes have trouble coping and can become emotionally unhealthy adults.

I have lived in very toxic home environments where fear ruled everything. I lost myself and tried real hard not to feel the heartbreak. My heart became very scarred and in order to not feel I had to build imaginary walls to protect myself. It’s called self preservation. It’s not healthy at all. I can only tell you that I personally found the only way to deal with heartbreak was to take it to God and open my heart to His healing love.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Jesus

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Jesus said in Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor, He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.”

It’s so important to allow ourselves to feel the pain of heartbreak and talk about it with God, read His word and let it soak in to the heart and healing happens. It’s a process that takes some time and trusting in the God who loves you beyond what your mind can imagine. He also wants to lead us out of darkness and into light.

God created us for relationships and He surely uses people to help each other heal as well, Sometimes choices have to be made to break free from toxic relationships and if you need help figuring that out please reach out for guidance to get healthy and break trauma bonds that hold you in what seems like a prison with no bars. Pray for God’s direction and wisdom. Everyone deserves love, respect and to feel safe.

I pray for you friend that you open your heart to His word and healing love. His faithfulness is new every morning waiting to embrace you through whatever you are facing this day.

In His Grace,

Sharon Kay
