Treasure Beyond Measure

Proverbs 8:11 “For wisdom is better than jewels, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”

Proverbs says a lot about wisdom…it’s better than everything we desire in this life! The book of James, a small book near the end of the New Testament, talks about wisdom a bit and he says in chapter 1 verse 5, “If any of you lack wisdom, you should ask God who gives generously to all.” If I could go back in my life and ask God for wisdom about decisions I made in my youth and even after I decided to give my life to Christ, I would certainly do so. But that is not an option, there’s no going back, only forward! So when we do receive knowledge from God’s word, it’s up to us to actually live it out, use it and become a doer of the word and not a hearer only.

Seeking wisdom requires us to stop what we’re doing and get quiet, talk to God about the deeper things……no holds barred….complete and honest baring of the soul! So many times my agenda may be self focused, and getting honest about why I want what I want can be rather difficult to unravel but when I really examine the motives of my heart it’s a real good start. And when I lay those desires out before God and ask Him to direct and guide me in my decisions, that my friend is wisdom!

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your steps.”

James says God gives wisdom liberally, all we have to do is ask! Proverbs says to TRUST and ACKNOWLEDGE God in all our ways. But how do we do that, you might say? Well, we walk by faith, which is the confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see according to Hebrews 11:1. Verse 3 says, “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Faith is somewhat mystical, believing in what you can’t actually see. God’s word does give us evidence though that He is who He says He is and if you truly seek, you will truly find truth.

I think our biggest challenge as humans is that we live in the physical realm and there is a barrier to the spiritual realm until we open our heart to God as a first step, then inputting knowledge from the written word, the Bible, into our mind begins to open our spirit to His love for us, His creation. Faith happens as we realize the truth of God’s ever reaching love for humanity. Our faith becomes rooted and grows as our spirit becomes more connected to a spiritual God. It’s just a beautiful thing when we move from just living in the physical realm to truly connecting with our Father in Heaven!

So my friend, no matter where you are in your faith journey, God longs to be close to you, so much so, that He sent Jesus to build the bridge that you can come to Him. Just open your mind and seek with all your heart!

Grace and Peace to you,

Sharon Kay
