Run To The Father

Do you remember falling as a little kid, knee bloody and stinging from the burn of the sidewalk scrape as the crash from your bicycle ruined your day. Who did you run to, cry to? Who dried your tears and comforted you as they cleaned up your wounds? Hopefully you had someone who nurtured you as a child, be it one of your parents, an aunt or grandparent. It’s so important for children to have a safe place to run to and feel secure. When they don’t have a secure base of unconditional love with healthy discipline they learn not to trust and many times seek love in unhealthy ways with unhealthy people. Let’s face it we’re all broken in some way or another.

Personally, I had deep trust issues from experiences in my childhood and living in a very toxic and abusive marriage for many years. My mother was a precious woman and loved me best she knew how but she too was emotionally unhealthy from her experiences as a child in a dysfunctional home. Her father, an angry alcoholic, unable to comfort her simply because he didn’t know how to give what he had never received.

“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Jesus. Matthew 11:28

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted,” Psalm 34:18

I began to pour my heart out to God, quite angry about my disappointments in life and God met me right where I was. He could handle all my frustrations and knew exactly what I needed to heal my broken heart. God became my Father, my Comforter, my Healer and He spoke to my heart in the stillness of His presence as my silent tears fell from my face through His word, the Bible as I read about His love for His creation and soaked it all into my weary soul.

Psalm 68:5 “I am the Father of the fatherless and defender of widows.”

He knows all you’ve been through and is longing for you to come to Him and believe that He created you with a purpose and a plan. And if you have been fortunate enough to have an easy way to go in life there will still be times of grief and sorrow in losing someone you love to death and loss, an unexpected illness or lifes’ burdens. Our time here on earth is limited and this life pales in comparison to eternity.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Look up to heaven my friend, bring all your troubles, disappointments, and broken dreams to God the Father. Jesus is the doorway to the heart of the Father, He paved the way for us to enter boldly into the throne room of God the Father where we can find all we need.

Hebrews 11:16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

There is a place to run to when life hits with all the unknown twists and turns in our journey. Run to the Father, tell him all your thoughts and concerns. He loves you and wants to make Himself known to you. He’ll walk with you through the hills and valleys of life and carry you through the rough patches when you can’t walk. “Be still and know that I am God….” Psalm 46:10

In His Grace,

Sharon Kay
