This time of year can be painful or at minimum, awkward for those of us who are without a signficant other. So much emphasis on who you love and who loves you and celebrations of love…it could make an individual feel lonely, left out and even unloved. Especially if recently separated or divorced or escaping a toxic relationship, the people we loved are no longer there and memories of past “celebrations” of love may creep in.

But what if we re-focused our mind this year to the love that has been freely given.

Matthew 10:7-8 “And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.”

There is no greater love than that which comes from our Creator. It is a love that lasts forever, is eternal, timeless, boundless, unconditional. There will never be found in humans this love as it is only available from God. As we go about our days, one of the creature comforts we all desire is love. We want to feel needed, accepted, wanted, desired. When our significant other leaves wounds in the opposite direction, it is hard to feel like we are even deserving of love. Our small minded human definition of love and the “feelings” we associate with it can’t compare to the reality that is God’s love.

John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” 

Imagine, God so desires to love you that He suffered unspeakable horrors by taking on the sin of all humankind, past, present, and future, so that you would not have to suffer eternally. God so desires to love you that He came down and became mortal. God so desires to love you that at the very moment you call on Him, He is there. There is no greater love than His.

John 3:16 “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” 

1 John 4:16 “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him”

1 John 4:16 “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love” 

God is love. So if you are feeling alone, lacking in that special person to love….cling to the knowledge that you are the special person to God. If you immerse yourself in His love, it will radiate outward to all around you.
