My last post was titled “Slow Down.” God has gifted us with senses that allow us to do just that. Our eyes are overused which leads to the dulling of our other senses.
Can you remember the last time you walked through the woods on a snowy day and were attuned to the crunch of snow under your footfalls, the feel of the damp air upon your cheeks, the sound of the wind clattering through the naked treetops?
Can you remember closing your eyes and listening to the sound of an orchestra and being keenly aware of each instrument while simultaneously hearing them separately?
What about walking through a field on a warm autumn day, with the smell of wild grass and flowers all around, the sun warming you from the outside in?
We move too fast today to really slow down and enjoy the blessings that God has given us in the form of our senses.
Proverbs 20:12 “The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both.”
When trauma is experienced, it inhibits your ability to regulate your senses. During recovery, it is healing to find ways to re-engage your sense in a positive way.
Mathew 6:22-23 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
Find your quiet place, close your eyes and listen to nature, feel the wind, taste something sweet and rejoice at the freedom the Lord has given and the beauty of His creation that He made for you out of the abundance of His love.
Re-engaging your senses to what is calming, refreshing and renewing as you walk through healing is an important ingredient to slowing down. Taking the time to focus on the creation outside of you and the Creator, will draw you ever close to Him.
1 Corinthians 2:9 “But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”
In peace,
