For so many people, Christmas brings a plate full of sadness. The reasons are so variable, from dealing with the loss of a loved one and missing them to painful circumstances of living in a home that is filled with emotional roller coaster rides, not the fun ones either. Christmas can bring with it a lot of anxiety and if you are overwhelmed with the stress of trying to meet expectations that are impossible to fulfill it can really rain sadness over life. Which can lead to depression and for some, feeling like they just don’t want to live. If that is you, please talk to someone about what you’re feeling. There will be a new day tomorrow and also hope can arise if you look for it.
Christmas’ comes and Christmas’ go….every year. It’s just one day of the year that we have to get through. I personally believe when I changed my perspective about what Christmas is really about that I was better able to navigate all the other feelings associated with my painful memories and also all the expectations that we all feel around this time of year.
I had a difficult childhood and even more difficult first marriage. I felt like my life never really mattered much to anyone because of the things I had suffered. I was overwhelmed with sorrow as I looked back on my life and I asked God if He even cared what I was going though. Somehow I was on a search for answers and God led me to a place of meeting His love for me. Finding hope, finding peace, finding Jesus. God’s love is Jesus!
As I read about the miracles surrounding Jesus Christ coming into the world, it absolutely blew my mind. The prophecies that were fulfilled, the supernatural happenings that are recorded by the worldly reporters of those historical times. The written accounts of people who witnessed events. The shepherds who seen the angels and heard a voice telling them where to find the newborn Jesus and to worship Him. The virgin birth of the Messiah, the Savior of the world, the Prince of Peace!
JESUS came into the world on a mission. A mission of love for all people, not just a certain group but everyone! The Bible directs us to seek the Lord Jesus and He can be found. My personal experience was feeling His love for me in coming into the world to save me from my sins. Christmas took on a whole new meaning to me. Now it was not so much about the gifts under a tree as it was about God’s gift of love to me and all who humbly come to Him, believe in Him and accept His gift of His life.
I did accept the gift of Jesus and my life changed. My hope was renewed that I was loved and my life mattered to God. Chains of rejection, abuse, dysfunction and loneliness began to break. The love of the Creator broke through the darkness that had overshadowed my life
He loves you so much and will lead and guide you to know Him, to worship Him for who He is, Messiah, Savior, Redeemer, Light of the World. Whatever you are facing today, Jesus will help you through the holidays. He will be with you through the times of joy and the times of sorrow. He truly has been faithful to me through it all as I tell my rescue story in my book, “Ashes To Diamonds And Rubies.”
Just as the wisemen searched for Him, we can also be wise in seeking Him and finding the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus is all of this and so much more.
John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
In His Love, Sharon Kay
