Love is?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “every human has a God-sized hole in their heart?” As created beings, our creator desires to love us, be with us, help us, heal us. For those of you that have children, this is easy to understand thinking of being a parent and how we want to love and nurture our children.

Isaiah 54:10 “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Children thrive when loved, nurtured, comforted in their early years. As we grow, the shift happens from us seeking love and validation from our parents to love and validation from others. Today, for many, love and validation is what is sought day after day online. The problem is that we are created beings, created to be in relationship first with our creator and then with each other, in community. The social media movement has created a mental health crisis in our world, never seen before. We were not meant to seek love from all things but to seek God’s love first.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

But what does this mean? Consider this, what are you currently seeking? Love, money, friends, fortune, healing, relationship, connection, belonging? So often in my own life, I have ordered my life in such a way that I prioritzed the things I was seeking over God. Brokenness in my heart and mind kept leading me to seek love and validation from humans, but what happened when I turned toward God first?

Our hearts are designed to love God, our father, Abba. Our hearts are designed to accept the sacrifice of Jesus with the true knowledge that we are unable to save ourselves from our own brokenness. Our hearts are designed to worship and if we don’t keep God in his proper position (1st), we will worship other things.

Exodus 20 1-3 And God spoke all these words: “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.”

God is love. If we open ourselves to Him and receive the love only He can give, our wounds will be mended.

1 John 4:16 “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him”

Reach for His endless love first!

Peace and love,
