What kind of clothes are you wearing today? We take so much time figuring out what we are wearing to work or church or out to dinner. So many different color schemes and accessories to choose from, and shoes, don’t forget the shoes and purses. I prefer flip flops with any outfit, as along as it’s above 60 degrees. People place such a high importance on how they present themselves, let’s face it, women are the worst! We even judge each other and sometimes are even harder on ourselves.
I Peter 3:3 says, “Do not let your adornment be merely outward; arranging of the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel, rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”
According to God’s word we are to focus in on who we really are…the hidden person of the heart with beauty that never fades in being gentle and kind. In Colossians 3, it speaks of setting our minds on things above, not things on the earth…designer clothes, purses and jewelry will pass away and have no meaning. It also says to put on the new man/woman who is renewed in knowledge according to Him (God) who created them.
Verse 12-17 says to put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, patience with people and forgiving one another even as Christ forgave you, so you must do. But above all these things, put on love. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and encouraging one another in psalms and spiritual singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Whatever you do in word or deed , do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
If you are discouraged or you are feeling down on yourself, God’s word also tells us what to wear…put on a garment of praise for a spirit of heaviness (depression) Isaiah 61:3. If you turn your heart toward God he will dress you with His beauty, all you have to do is seek Him with all your heart. Choose a garment of praise my friend and sing for joy that you are loved by your Creator and His plans for you are good.
In His Love, Sharon Kay
